The Château de la Varenne was built in 1506 in a pure french Renaissance style. Its proportions are very harmonious : the tiled roof, as high s the stone part, is flanked by four slated watch-towers. In the main hall, the exceptional Renaissance carved-stone ceiling and the XVIIIth century staircase can be seen at certain dates only. The grounds, surrounded by the river Saulx, include a terrace in the french style and a romantic park with remarkable trees.
Two different views confront the visitor to this lovely 50 acre country park that surrounds this château built between the 16th and 18th century. From the classic formal French style terrace the garden is separated by a wooded area, leading to a vast meadow dotted with flowers. There are botanical scented sections and the rare species and exceptional viewpoints are marked with information panels. Strategically placed stone benches give the visitor a chance to rest and admire the surroundings.
