Built in the 18th century for the Prémontré canons, or ‘white monks’, the Abbey is a Historical Monument situated in 6 acres of park bordered by the Moselle River and is a Gothic hall church design, having naves and aisles in perfect proportions. With three principal buildings around the cloister, a scented garden and 3 impressive Baroque staircases (oval, round and square), it is one of the most impressive religious structures in Lorraine. Cultural events are held throughout the year.

The garden was created for the scented garden exhibition in 2009 and has 6,861 plants in a layout mixing the classic French formal style with the riotous informality of an English garden. The result is an olfactory delight of flowers, bushes, herbs and citrus such as lavender, santolina, roses, lilies, jasmine, oregano, Seville orange, plus pelargonium plants scented with mint, lemon grass, eucalyptus, lavender, pine, cedar and orange.
